Identigene STD Test Instructions

Step 1:

Complete the order form, including a login and password for accessing results online or over the phone.

Step 2:

Remove the specimen tube from the collection kit. Using a pen, write your name and date of birth on the outside of the tube.

IMPORTANT: Be sure that the information written on the tube matches the information written on the Order Form (from Step 1). Failure to provide this information or non-matching information may delay or cancel testing.

Place the specimen tube upright inside the marked area of the collection tray and press lightly to snap into place. Open the specimen tube by unscrewing the cap. DO NOT puncture the foil seal on the cap.

Step 3:

To collect the specimen, hold urine collection cup directly in line with the urine stream until the cup is about half full. Collect no more than 1 oz. (30 CC) of urine.
Place the half-filled collection cup on a flat surface.

IMPORTANT: For best results, collect immediately when urination stream first starts (”first-catch urine”). You should not urinate for at least one (1) hour prior to collecting the specimen. Female participants should not clean the area around the genitals prior to specimen collection.

Step 4:

Carefully remove the dropper from the tray. Squeeze the bulb on the end of the dropper and place the tip of the dropper into the half-filled collection cup. Release the bulb to fill the dropper.

Step 5:

Place the tip of the dropper into the open end of the specimen tube. Squeeze the bulb at the end of the dropper to release the urine into the specimen tube. Repeat until the final fluid level is between the black lines (fill area) on the tube.

IMPORTANT: You must add enough urine to the clear liquid so that the fluid level is between the black lines (fill area) on the tube. DO NOT over-fill or under-fill the tube.

Place cap on the specimen tube and screw on evenly until tight. Carefully remove the specimen tube from the collection tray. Appropriately dispose of the remaining urine from the collection cup, and discard the collection cup, collection tray, and dropper. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.

Step 6:

Place the specimen tube into the clear plastic biohazard bag with the absorbent pad. Remove the adhesive liner and then close and completely seal the bag.

Step 7:

Place the completed Order Form, payment, and biohazard bag with urine specimen tube into the postage-paid return mailer. Remove the adhesive liner from inside the box flap, and then close and seal the mailer.

Step 8:

Mail the postage-paid return mailer to IDENTIGENE via the U.S. postal service. Allow 3-5 business days for delivery of the specimen to IDENTIGENE. If you prefer, you may ship via UPS or FedEx to:

IMPORTANT: If returning via express courier, such as FedEx or UPS, be sure the package is clearly marked as a urine specimen (Biological Substance, Category B). Mail the specimen within 10 days.
